Cover Chef Job Description
Job Title: Cover Chef
Role Purpose:
To provide high-quality food preparation and cooking services, working regular shifts on Mondays and Tuesdays and providing additional cover during staff holidays, sickness, and busy periods. The Cover Chef will help ensure the smooth running of the kitchen while maintaining excellent food quality, cleanliness, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook breakfast, brunch, lunch, and light meals to company standards.
- Ensure all food is presented to a high standard and served promptly.
- Follow all food hygiene, HACCP, and health & safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen at all times.
- Carry out washing up, cleaning, and end-of-day kitchen duties.
- Monitor food stock levels and report shortages.
- Assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and food storage.
- Minimise waste and ensure portion control.
- Work efficiently during busy service periods.
- Support front-of-house staff when required.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover for other kitchen staff as needed.
Requirements:
- Previous chef, cook, or kitchen experience.
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, flexible, and punctual.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate preferred.
Hours:
Monday and Tuesday, 7:00am – 3:00pm, with additional hours available to cover staff holidays, sickness, and busy periods.
Location: Margot's Café, Rayleigh.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £12.71-£13.50 per hour
