Midshires Catering Equipment has been keeping commercial kitchens running for over 16 years. We started out as specialists in commercial glasswashers and dishwashers, and over the years we've expanded into the full range of catering equipment — combi ovens, high-speed ovens, and more — for restaurants, cafés, pubs, and care homes across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Lincolnshire, and Northamptonshire. Warewashing is still very much in our DNA — we work closely with Krupps and Compack on dishwashers and glasswashers and are instrumental in their product development, and we enjoy great relationships with other leading equipment providers including Retigo, Lincat, and Falcon. We also have a growing rental customer base, which keeps our engineers busy on installs as well as service and repair work.
We're not a call centre with a van. We're a close-knit team who genuinely care about getting a kitchen back up and running when it matters most — because a broken oven at 8am is somebody's whole day gone. If you take pride in a proper job, done right, we want to talk to you.
The Role
We're looking for a qualified Commercial Gas Engineer to join our service team, working on the installation, maintenance, and repair of gas-fired catering equipment, glasswashers and dishwasher and most catering equipment we come across on a daily basis for customers across the region.
You'll be out on the road, in real kitchens, solving real problems — not stuck behind a desk. Every day's different: one morning you might be commissioning a new combi oven for a new café opening, the next you're diagnosing a fault on a high-speed oven for a busy pub kitchen that can't afford downtime.
What You'll Be Doing
- Installing, servicing, and repairing gas commercial catering equipment, commercial Warewashers and general catering equipment.
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs efficiently and safely, often under time pressure
- Carrying out routine planned maintenance visits across our customer base
- Completing gas safety checks and certification in line with current regulations
- Advising customers on-site in a clear, straightforward way — no jargon, no upselling for the sake of it
- Keeping accurate job records, parts usage, and paperwork (we'll show you our systems — nothing complicated)
- Working closely with our Service Coordinator and the Service and Operations Manager to keep the day running smoothly and customers informed
- Taking part in our weekend call-out rota, roughly every 3rd or 4th weekend, to support customers with urgent breakdowns outside normal hours
What We're Looking For
- Valid Gas Safe certification relevant to commercial catering equipment (essential). A minimum of Comcats 1, 3 and 5 is essential.
- Proven experience servicing and repairing commercial gas and electrical catering equipment
- A full UK driving licence
- Someone who can work independently, use their initiative, and stay calm when a kitchen is under pressure
- Strong communication skills — you'll be the face of Midshires in front of customers
- A genuine "get it fixed properly" attitude, not a "good enough" one
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience with brands such as Lincat, Retigo, or similar commercial catering equipment
- Electrical (LV) qualifications alongside gas
- Refrigeration/F-Gas experience
