We are looking for an organised, detail-oriented Pay & Bill Administrator to join our team in Barnsley. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative skills, a good understanding of pay & bill processes, and the ability to work accurately to deadlines.
The Role
Reporting to the Pay & Bill Manager, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll and billing services across multiple clients, ensuring high levels of compliance and client service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls
- Reviewing and validating timesheets, pay rates, and deductions
- Managing contractor payroll and supporting payslip production
- Raising invoices and credit notes, ensuring accuracy of billing data
- Maintaining payroll, contractor, and client records
- Handling payroll, billing, and invoicing queries professionally
- Supporting PAYE, NI, pensions, and VAT compliance processes
- Assisting with purchase ledger processing and bank reconciliations
- Working closely with internal teams and client contacts to ensure accuracy and deadlines are met
- Keeping payroll, billing and client records confidential and complying with data protection requirements.
About You
- Previous pay and bill, payroll, finance, or accounts experience is essential
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when working with timesheets, rates, invoices and payroll data
- Good IT skills, including confidence using spreadsheets, payroll systems, invoicing platforms and/or recruitment back-office systems
- Have a working knowledge of accounting and payroll systems e.g. Xero/Sage
- Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage deadlines across multiple clients and pay cycles
- Clear communication skills and a helpful, professional approach when dealing with contractors, clients and internal teams
- Ability to handle confidential payroll, billing and client information appropriately
- Knowledge of payroll legislation, pensions, PAYE, National Insurance and recruitment-sector pay and bill processes is desirable.
- Experience of working for a firm of accountants or recruitment business in a similar position would be an advantage.
