Role Description
This is a full-time Quantity Surveyor position based on-site at our Elland location. The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing project costs from inception to completion, preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQ), conducting cost planning and control, and delivering detailed cost reporting. The role also involves liaising with clients, contractors, and team members to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Cost Control and Cost Management to ensure projects remain within budget.
- Experience in the preparation and review of Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
- Expertise in Cost Planning and Cost Reporting for effective financial management and clear project updates.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills to manage project budgets and resources efficiently.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Knowledge of construction processes and regulations is an advantage.
- Relevant academic qualifications, such as a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field, are preferred.

About the Role
We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Team, taking full commercial responsibility for projects once they move from pre‑contract into delivery. After tender adjudication, you will receive the Scope of Works, design information and cost comparisons prepared by our Design Coordinators, and you will lead procurement, subcontractor management and commercial performance throughout the build.
This role is central to MCWY’s delivery model — once design is complete, the QS becomes the commercial and coordination lead on the project.
Key Responsibilities
Handover & Mobilisation
- Review SOWs, design packages and cost comparisons prepared by the Design Coordinator
- Understand tender allowances, risks and procurement strategy
- Prepare procurement schedules and ordering timelines
Procurement & Subcontract Management
- Place subcontract orders based on pre‑contract SOWs and comparisons
- Lead subcontractor meetings on site
- Obtain and review RAMS, insurances, programme commitments and compliance documentation
- Manage subcontractor performance commercially and contractually
Commercial Management
- Prepare valuations, variations, change control and payment applications
- Maintain accurate cost forecasting and commercial reporting
- Manage risk, value engineering and commercial opportunities
- Work closely with Contracts Managers and Site Teams to support programme certainty
Quality, Compliance & Sustainability
- Manage BREEAM evidence, checklists and compliance documentation
- Ensure alignment with MCWY’s ISO‑aligned quality, safety and environmental systems
- Support design freeze, buildability reviews and technical compliance
Project Close‑Out
- Lead final account negotiations
- Ensure all commercial documentation is complete and compliant
- Support handover, O&M and defects processes
What We’re Looking For
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, minimum 2 years.
- Degree qualified in Construction.
- Strong understanding of JCT contracts
- Confident in procurement, subcontract management and commercial reporting
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage multiple packages and deadlines
