As our installed customer base continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Service & Commissioning Engineer to join our UK team based in Nuneaton.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation support, commissioning, planned maintenance, reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and ongoing technical support of Spacemaker shuttle systems at customer sites throughout the UK and occasionally internationally.
The Role
The Service & Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that Spacemaker shuttle systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently throughout their operational life.
The role will combine:
- New system installation support and commissioning
- Planned preventative maintenance
- Reactive breakdown response
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Electrical and mechanical maintenance
- Controls and automation troubleshooting
- Customer training
- System inspections
- Technical reporting
- Remote technical support
The successful candidate will become a technical expert in Spacemaker's 2-way and 4-way shuttle technology and will act as a key technical representative of the company when working at customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Commissioning
Support the onsite commissioning of new Spacemaker shuttle installations.
2. 2-Way Shuttle Systems
Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of Spacemaker 2-way shuttle technology.
3. 4-Way Shuttle Systems
Develop specialist expertise in Spacemaker 4-way shuttle technology.
4. Planned Preventative Maintenance
Carry out scheduled maintenance programmes across the installed customer base.
5. Reactive Maintenance & Breakdown Support
Respond to customer breakdowns and system failures.
6. Electrical & Controls Troubleshooting
The successful candidate will be expected to develop strong knowledge of the electrical and control architecture of Spacemaker systems.
7. Mechanical Fault Finding
Carry out mechanical inspection, diagnosis and repair of shuttle systems.
8. Customer Training
Provide operational and basic maintenance training to customers following installation.
9. Customer Relationship Management
Act as a professional technical representative of Spacemaker Systems Inc. at customer sites.
10. Service Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of all service and commissioning activities.
11. Spare Parts & Inventory
Support effective management of service parts.
12. Health & Safety
Operate to the highest standards of health and safety at all times.
Travel Requirements
This is a predominantly field-based role.
The engineer will be required to:
- Travel extensively throughout the UK.
- Attend customer sites at short notice for breakdowns.
- Undertake multi-day commissioning projects.
- Work away from home when required.
- Occasionally work weekends or outside normal hours during commissioning or emergency breakdowns.
- Undertake occasional international travel to support Spacemaker installations and customers.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Essential Experience
The successful candidate should have proven experience in field service, commissioning or maintenance of automated industrial equipment.
Experience in one or more of the following environments would be highly advantageous:
- Warehouse automation
- Material handling
- Automated storage and retrieval systems
- Pallet shuttle systems
- Conveyor systems
- Robotics
- Automated guided vehicles
- Industrial automation
- Manufacturing automation
- Automated warehouse equipment
- Forklift / warehouse equipment
Experience with 2-way or 4-way pallet shuttle systems would be highly advantageous but is not essential where the candidate has strong transferable automation experience.

Qualifications
The following qualifications or equivalent experience would be desirable:
- HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent engineering qualification.
- City & Guilds electrical/mechanical qualification.
- Apprenticeship in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering.
- ECS Card – Preference to Gold Card
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Working at Height Training
- Working at Heigh Rescue – Desirable.
- IPAF/Pasma Training
- Relevant industrial automation training.
Relevant practical experience will be considered alongside formal qualifications.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced field service, commissioning or maintenance engineer with a strong electrical/mechanical background and experience working with automated industrial equipment.
They will enjoy solving difficult technical problems, working directly with customers and travelling to different sites.
Experience with automated storage, pallet shuttles, conveyors, robotics or warehouse automation would be particularly valuable.
Most importantly, the successful candidate will have the aptitude and attitude to become a technical specialist in Spacemaker's 2-way and 4-way shuttle systems and play a key role in establishing Spacemaker's reputation for outstanding system reliability and customer service.
Pay: £40,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
