Join Chadwick Lodge as Health, Safety & Security Lead, where you'll play a critical role in protecting patients, staff, visitors and hospital assets while promoting a culture of safety, security and continuous improvement.
This is a leadership role with equal focus on health, safety and security, responsible for providing strategic and operational oversight across the hospital. Working as a key member of the hospital Leadership Team, you will support the hospital's security agenda while ensuring robust health and safety standards, effective risk management and emergency preparedness arrangements are embedded throughout the service.
As the sites subject matter expert, you will provide specialist leadership in physical, procedural, relational and therapeutic security, supporting teams to balance security requirements with recovery-focused care and least restrictive practice. You will work closely with clinical and operational colleagues to identify, assess and manage risks, ensuring security arrangements support both patient safety and positive therapeutic outcomes.
Alongside leading security initiatives, you will oversee the hospital's health and safety framework, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulatory standards and organisational policies. You will drive continuous improvement through audits, inspections, investigations and governance processes, helping maintain a safe, secure and compliant environment for everyone on site.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the hospital's Health, Safety and Security Strategy, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulatory standards and best practice.
- Provide expert advice and assurance to the Hospital Director, Senior Leadership Team and Governance Committees.
- Lead the hospital's security agenda, promoting effective physical, procedural, relational and therapeutic security practices.
- Oversee security risk assessments, incident reviews, investigations and contingency planning.
- Provide specialist advice on patient risk management, security issues and least restrictive approaches to care.
- Ensure compliance with organisational security frameworks, policies and standards.
- Lead health and safety programmes, audits, inspections and risk management processes across the hospital.
- Oversee fire safety, emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures and business continuity arrangements.
- Manage accident, incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring learning and improvements are implemented.
- Develop and deliver health, safety and security training programmes, building capability and awareness across the workforce.
- Produce assurance reports and present findings to governance forums and leadership teams.
- Work collaboratively with clinical teams, external agencies and regulatory bodies to promote safe, secure and recovery-focused environments.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Significant experience within forensic, secure mental health, healthcare, prison, secure care or related environments.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, including:
- Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999
- Fire Safety Regulations
- RIDDOR
- COSHH
- Risk Management Frameworks
- Knowledge of security management within secure healthcare environments.
- Experience of external inspections and regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership, audit, investigation and project management skills.
- Knowledge of relational, procedural, physical and therapeutic security models.
