GMP Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of one of Cambridge University's most prestigious and renowned colleges for an ambitious and talented Chef de Partie (Section Chef) to join their professional kitchen brigade.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Chef de Partie to work within a modern kitchen environment using high-quality fresh ingredients, supporting the Executive Head Chef, Shift Head Chefs and Sous Chefs in delivering innovative, high-quality food.
You will be part of a dedicated team providing exceptional meals for Fellows, students and staff, as well as a wide range of functions and events including private dinners, lunches, weddings, Feasts and other high-profile special occasions.
The Role
As Chef de Partie, you will take responsibility for your designated section, assisting senior chefs with the preparation and delivery of high-quality food across the College's dining operations and events.
You will have the opportunity to develop your culinary skills within a fast-moving, varied and professional environment, working with excellent fresh ingredients and contributing to a wide range of menus and functions.
This is a permanent, full-time position, typically working 37.5 hours per week on a shift rota. Straight shifts only.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for your designated section and ensure consistently high standards of food preparation and presentation.
- Assist the Executive Head Chef, Shift Head Chefs and Sous Chefs with daily kitchen operations.
- Prepare and cook high-quality dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
- Support the delivery of meals for Fellows, students and staff.
- Assist with the preparation and service of private dinners, lunches, weddings, Feasts and other special events.
- Follow recipes and presentation standards to ensure consistency across all services.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, organisation and food presentation.
- Work efficiently as part of a busy and professional kitchen brigade.
- Support and assist junior members of the kitchen team.
- Lead by example and help inspire, train and develop junior chefs.
- Maintain strong communication with colleagues across the kitchen and wider College.
- Ensure all food is prepared and stored in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Maintain a strong awareness of special diets, allergens and nutritional requirements.
- Assist with stock rotation, waste reduction and maintaining appropriate food levels.
- Ensure all equipment and work areas are kept clean, safe and organised.
- Contribute positively to a supportive and professional kitchen environment.
About You
- Proven experience working as a Chef de Partie or in a similar position within a busy commercial kitchen.
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Catering or Professional Cookery (or equivalent).
- Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, health and hygiene standards.
- Good awareness of special diets and nutrition.
- Creative approach to food with a genuine passion for quality cooking.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Ability to lead by example and support the development of junior chefs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a busy kitchen team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexible approach to working across different services and events.
- Previous experience within a college, university, hotel or high-quality commercial kitchen would be advantageous.
