We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team at Howe Dell Manor in Hatfield. This is a permanent part-time role covering Fridays and weekends (10am to 4pm) – ideal if you’re looking for regular, predictable hours that leave your weekdays free.
About the role:
Working alongside the Chef and wider catering team, you’ll help prepare and serve meals for the people who live with us, keep the kitchen clean and well organised, and make sure food is stored, handled and recorded in line with food safety standards. Mealtimes matter here – they’re one of the highlights of the day – so the care you take with presentation and service makes a real difference.
As an assistant, you won’t be expected to create meals from scratch, but you will often:
- Prepare simple meals such as salads
- Prepare beverage trolleys
- Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining area
- Prepare dining areas for all meals, including laying tables
- Heat ancillary items or pre-prepared meals
- Interact with residents during service
You’ll also help with washing up and cleaning down, support with deliveries, stock rotation and storage, and complete food safety records and temperature checks. Individual dietary requirements, allergen information and texture-modified diets are all part of the daily routine, and we’ll make sure you’re trained and confident with these.
About you:
You don’t need previous kitchen experience; full training is provided but you will need to be reliable, willing to muck in, and comfortable working to a routine in a busy environment. What matters most is that you’re warm with people, take pride in doing things properly, and understand about food hygiene standards.
A Level 2 Food Safety certificate is helpful but not essential.
What we offer:
- Full induction and paid training
- Medical cash back plan
- Free hot drinks
• Employee assistance programme
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
