Optical Assistant/Trainee Optical Assistant
An exciting opportunity for starting a career in optics has arisen for an enthusiastic, smartly presented, confident individual who is comfortable dealing with people both face to face and on the telephone.
Our ideal candidate will have:
· Excellent customer service.
· 5 GCSE Grade 4/equivalent Grade C or above to include Maths and English.
· Computer skills.
· Previous optical experience helpful.
Training and guidance will be provided by our qualified Dispensing Opticians and the rest of our friendly, knowledgeable team, supplemented by external courses.
There is nothing more important than eyesight. Helping people with their eyes makes being an Optical Assistant an incredibly worthwhile roll. Our company ethos is to provide outstanding customer care and you’ll be the first person to greet our patients.
The roll is interesting, varied and includes:
· Dispensing spectacles
· Doing minor adjustments and repairs
· Assisting with contact lens advice
· Reception/administration work
· Helping our Optometrists with visual field testing, ocular photography and optical coherence tomography
· Doing your bit to keep the practice presentable.
Julian May Opticians was established in 2007 and is a busy independent optical practice in the Southbourne area of Bournemouth. Southbourne is a thriving part of Bournemouth with lots of different shops and restaurants. There is free, all-day parking in the local side streets, it is on a major bus route and roughly 15 minutes’ walk from Pokesdown train station.
We have modern premises and use the latest technology and equipment. We stock a wide range of designer frames and sunglasses including Lindberg, Oakley, Ray-Ban, Tom Ford, Prada, Emporio Armani, Tiffany and Maui Jim. As a truly independent practice we are able to dispense lenses from the majority of manufacturers and, amongst others, are brand ambassadors for Essilor. We stock Nuance Audio and Meta AI spectacles.
We do a range of enhanced eye examinations including Macular Pigment Screening, specialist glaucoma monitoring, Dry Eye and Blephex treatments.
· Full-time, permanent position.
· The salary ranges from £27,000 to £28,000 plus a quarterly bonus.

· We open Monday to Saturday. Applicants should expect to work Saturdays and be flexible with a day off during the week. We work a 40-hour week: 8:45am to 5:45pm with an hour for lunch.
