Job Overview
We are looking for friendly, reliable and hardworking Casual Bar Staff aged 18 or over to join our team at Sandhills Bar & Lounge.
Due to the conditions of our premises licence and the nature of the role, applicants must be aged 18 or over.
The most important qualities we are looking for are initiative, common sense, a strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Applicants should be willing to notice what needs doing and complete routine tasks without having to be repeatedly asked.
The role involves evening, weekend and Bank Holiday work within a busy venue offering live music, sport, karaoke, quizzes and private events. Previous bar experience is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Main Responsibilities
- Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks efficiently and professionally.
- Take orders accurately and process cash and card payments.
- Provide friendly and welcoming customer service.
- Keep the bar, fridges, tables and customer areas clean, tidy and well stocked.
- Restock drinks, glasses and bar supplies throughout the shift and before finishing.
- Complete opening, closing, cleaning and toilet-checking duties as required.
- Follow licensing laws, age-verification procedures and responsible alcohol-service policies.
- Monitor customer behaviour and report concerns to management.
- Support live music, sports screenings and other venue events.
- Report stock shortages, equipment faults, incidents and unfinished tasks.
Essential Requirements and Qualities
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or over.
- Strong initiative and the ability to recognise what needs doing.
- Good common sense and sound judgement.
- A strong work ethic and willingness to contribute fully throughout the shift.
- A team-focused attitude, including helping colleagues without always needing to be asked.
- Reliable, punctual and available for evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
- Friendly, confident and professional with customers.
- Able to remain calm and organised during busy periods.
- Willing to clean, restock and complete every aspect of the role.
- Able to follow instructions while also working independently.
- Honest, responsible and trustworthy.
- Good communication and basic numeracy skills.
Previous bar, hospitality, retail or customer-service experience would be beneficial but is less important than having the right attitude, reliability and willingness to work.
Important Expectations
Staff must arrive ready to work, complete all allocated duties and contribute equally to the team. This is a hands-on role, and staff are expected to remain productive throughout their shift rather than waiting to be instructed on every task.
Personal phone use, vaping, drinking alcohol while working and providing unauthorised discounts or free drinks are not permitted.
What We Offer
- Paid casual employment with flexible shifts.
- Full training provided.
- A lively and varied working environment.
- Opportunities for regular shifts and additional responsibility for dependable members of staff.
Pay: Up to £12.71 per hour
