Job Description – Care Assistant
Location: Holmwood Care Centre, Kidderminster
Reports to: Senior Care Assistant / Nurse in Charge / Clinical Deputy Manager / Home Manager
Job Purpose
To provide high-quality, person-centred care that promotes the dignity, independence, choice, and wellbeing of residents living at Holmwood Care Centre. The Care Assistant will support residents with their physical, emotional, social, and personal care needs while ensuring a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPersonal Care
- Assist residents with all aspects of personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and continence care.
- Support residents with mobility and safe transfers using appropriate moving and handling techniques and equipment.
- Promote independence by encouraging residents to do as much as they are able for themselves.
Daily Living Support
- Assist residents with eating and drinking, ensuring individual dietary requirements are met.
- Support residents to participate in meaningful activities and social interaction.
- Encourage residents to maintain their hobbies, interests, and personal routines.
Health and Wellbeing
- Observe and report any changes in residents' physical or mental health to senior staff.
- Support residents with medication where trained and authorised.
- Maintain accurate records of care provided in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Communication
- Build positive and respectful relationships with residents, relatives, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
- Treat all residents with dignity, compassion, and respect at all times.
- Communicate effectively to ensure continuity of care.
Safeguarding and Safety
- Safeguard residents from abuse, neglect, or harm and report concerns immediately.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, fire procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR and company policies.
Team Working
- Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Attend handovers, meetings, and mandatory training sessions.
- Support colleagues to maintain high standards of care.
Housekeeping
- Help maintain clean, safe, and comfortable living environments.
- Ensure residents' rooms and communal areas remain tidy and welcoming.
- Assist with laundry and other domestic duties when required.

Desirable
- Previous experience in a care home, nursing home, or healthcare setting.
- Care Certificate or Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience supporting older people, including those living with dementia.
Working Conditions
