Job Overview
The Hotel Doorman is responsible for providing a warm, professional and attentive welcome to all guests and visitors while maintaining the highest standards of service, security and care of guest property. The Doorman is often the first and last point of contact for guests and therefore plays an important role in representing the standards and reputation of the hotel.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and acknowledge all guests and visitors in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
- Open doors and assist guests when arriving at or departing from the hotel.
- Assist guests with luggage, ensuring that all items are handled carefully and remain secure and attended at all times.
- Ensure luggage is transferred promptly to the appropriate secure storage area and never left unattended in public areas, entrances, corridors or outside the hotel.
- Follow the hotel's luggage handling, storage and identification procedures at all times.
- Assist guests with taxis, private cars, transfers and directions as required.
- Monitor the hotel entrance and surrounding areas and remain alert to suspicious persons, activity or unattended property.
- Ensure hotel entrances and designated security doors are kept secure and are not unnecessarily left or propped open.
- Immediately report any security concern, suspicious activity, loss, damage or incident involving guest or hotel property to the Duty Manager or appropriate manager.
- Never allow unauthorised persons access to guest-only, staff-only or secure areas.
- Work closely with the Concierge, Reception, Guest Services and Duty Management teams to ensure smooth guest arrivals and departures.
- Assist with deliveries, parcels and guest items in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the hotel entrance and immediate surrounding area.
- Have good knowledge of the hotel, its facilities, services and the local area.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests and seek assistance where a request cannot be immediately fulfilled.
- Follow all hotel policies and procedures relating to Health & Safety, fire safety, security, safeguarding and guest confidentiality.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by management consistent with the position.
Guest Property & Security Responsibilities
The Doorman has a particular duty of care when handling guest luggage and property. Guest belongings must never be left unsecured or unattended. Any property temporarily under the hotel's control must be handled and stored strictly in accordance with the hotel's procedures.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a luxury hotel, concierge, porter or customer-facing role is desirable.
- Excellent guest-service and communication skills.
- Professional appearance and manner.
- Strong awareness of security and guest safety.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Able to handle luggage safely and undertake the physical requirements of the position.
- Good knowledge of London and local attractions, restaurants and transport is advantageous.
