Caretaker – Secondary School
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and practical Caretaker to join a secondary school in the Gateshead area, working 36 hours per week throughout the school year, including school holiday periods.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or site management experience who is looking for a consistent role within a busy secondary school environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the school site is safe, secure, clean, and well maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.
The Role:
- Carry out general caretaking and site management duties across the school premises
- Open and secure the school site as required
- Complete routine health and safety and site security checks
- Carry out basic maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the school buildings and grounds
- Identify and report any maintenance, safety, or security issues
- Support contractors and external visitors attending the school site
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and other items around the school when required
- Undertake light cleaning duties to maintain a safe and presentable environment
- Ensure the school site remains well maintained during school holidays
- Work closely with the school's leadership and facilities teams to ensure the smooth running of the premises
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or site support role
- Be practical and confident carrying out general maintenance and repair tasks
- Have a good understanding of health and safety and site security
- Be reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently
- Demonstrate good organisation and time management skills
- Have a proactive approach and be willing to undertake a varied range of duties
- Experience working within a school or education setting is desirable but not essential
