Job Overview
As a tutor, you are expected to work towards the following aims for learners:
To provide training, advice and support to learners to ensure they obtain the skills, knowledge and experience relevant to their vocational or industry qualification.
To support the collection and presentation of a portfolio of evidence that meets the performance criteria and evidence requirements of their vocational or industry qualification. To carry out a fair, safe and reliable assessment of the candidate’s skills and knowledge.
As a tutor supporting E3, Level 1 & 2 candidates, it is your role to support candidates to ensure they obtain the skills, knowledge and experience relevant to their vocational qualification. You will carry out a fair, safe and reliable assessment of the candidate’s skills and knowledge, adhering to Green Labyrinth’s policies and those of the Awarding body.
As part of the learner progression, you will work with the GL support staff and mentors to ensure that the learners you support are undertaking the correct pathway industry work placements.
You are to prepare and deliver learning activities using a variety of methods (including blended learning, if absolutely required), which are contextualised to working environments and to support the development of knowledge and skills.
You should be qualified to the highest appropriate level in the relevant vocational area and hold the necessary Assessor / Verifier awards in the relevant discipline. Relevant and recent industry / work-based experience is required as well as a clear understanding of vocational qualifications and quality frameworks.
You must have experience of developing training materials and of delivery training contextualised to the relevant discipline/industry. The ability to write and deliver pre-prepared training and other materials to support business development is essential.
Additionally, as a home tutor, you are to support learners in the community to achieve to the best of their ability, whilst ensuring you assess them regularly using tools such as BKSB to identify areas that need to be targeted. As a home tutor, you are asked to provide some pastoral support via mentor updates with the learners as you support them.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to and use individual learners’ academic starting points to plan effective Vocational learning programmes.
- Follow Schemes of Work which are in line with a variety of specifications, explicitly state SEN strategies used, employability skills developed & general Ofsted criteria.
- Develop and implement a variety of in-class differentiation techniques to meet the needs of all individual learners, including the more able and SEN.
- To support learners with a range of Behavioural issues.
- To support learners with any Safeguarding issues that may arise and report to the necessary person, where necessary.
- Monitor learners’ performance, attainment and progress for various courses and implement and evaluate appropriate intervention.
- Follow all policies and reporting procedures including Health & Safety, Cover, Equality & Diversity, IAG & Staff Duty policies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in tutoring or teaching children across different age groups and educational levels
- Strong understanding of educational principles, including special education strategies if applicable
- Excellent communication skills to clearly convey concepts and motivate students
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and needs
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for fostering a positive learning environment
- Relevant experience working with children, including those with special educational needs or disabilities is preferred
- Certification or training in education or tutoring is a plus but not mandatory
