- Who We Are
Pencil and Brick is an ambitious architecture and construction practice that believes great buildings begin with great relationships. By bringing architecture, construction and client experience together under one roof, we're creating a different kind of business, one where collaboration comes naturally, decisions are made quickly and everyone shares the same goal of delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients.
We're growing because we're not afraid to challenge the way things have always been done. We believe in building trust, taking ownership, paying attention to the details and continually looking for better ways of working.
We're super proud of what we've built so far, but we're even more excited about where we're heading. That's why we're looking for people who don't just want a job, they want to help build something special.
- We don't hire job titles. We build Bricks.
At Pencil and Brick, we believe that businesses are built one person at a time.
Every person who joins us becomes another Brick in something much bigger than themselves.
Some Bricks lead projects.
Some design beautiful spaces.
Some build them.
Some quietly keep everything moving behind the scenes.
Every Brick carries the load equally (structural engineer pun).
We're looking for someone who wants to become one of ours.
- This probably isn't the job advert you're expecting.
We're not looking for someone to simply process invoices or organise paperwork.
We're looking for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, spotting opportunities to improve how things work and taking genuine pride in helping other people succeed.
You'll naturally find yourself helping with finance one minute, organising interviews the next, arranging suppliers for a construction project later that afternoon and then helping improve one of our internal systems before the day is over.
No two days look the same.
That's exactly how we like it.
- Our Values aren't words on a wall.
Everything we do is guided by five values.
You’ll see them here
https://www.pencilandbrick.co.uk/our-ethos/
If these values genuinely resonate with you, you'll probably feel at home here.
- We hire for character first.
Technical skills can be taught.
Character is much harder to teach.
That's why every candidate who joins Pencil and Brick completes a character strengths assessment as part of our recruitment process.
There are no right or wrong answers, and it isn't a pass or fail exercise.
It simply helps us understand how you naturally think, work and collaborate, allowing us to build balanced teams where people genuinely enjoy working together and can do their best work.
We're interested in who you are every bit as much as what you've done.
- The role
You'll become one of the operational hubs of our business, supporting finance, people, purchasing and day-to-day operations.
Some of the things you'll get involved with include:
- Supporting the day-to-day finance function and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Coordinating purchasing and supplier relationships.
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding and people administration.
- Helping keep our systems, documentation and business processes organised.
- Finding better, smarter and more efficient ways of working.
- Supporting the wider team wherever your help is needed.
The role will continue to evolve as we grow, and we're looking for someone who's excited by that opportunity.
We offer a flexible, hybrid way of working because we believe people who are passionate about what they do, act with integrity, build trust and take pride in getting the details right don't need rigid rules. Being a Brick is about more than where you work, it's about the part you play in helping us build an exceptional business.
- About you
You'll enjoy this role if you:
- Love bringing organisation and structure to busy environments.
- Naturally take ownership without waiting to be asked.
- Notice things that could work better and enjoy improving them.
- Build trust quickly with colleagues and suppliers.
- Enjoy solving problems.
- Like variety more than routine.
- Are equally comfortable working with people, numbers and systems.
- Want to grow alongside an ambitious business.
- Why Pencil and Brick?
Because you'll never be "just" a Finance or People Coordinator.
You'll become an important Brick in a business that's continually evolving.
Your ideas will be listened to.
You'll be trusted to make decisions.
You'll have the opportunity to shape how we work.
And you'll be surrounded by people who genuinely care about building something exceptional together.
If that sounds like your kind of environment, we'd love to hear from you.
