WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a hands-on, switched-on Yard Controller/Valeter who takes pride in making the place sparkle, flow and feel brilliantly organised. Our Nottingham yard is a busy hub: drivers collecting trucks, vehicles arriving for servicing, MOTs, repairs and maintenance, customers visiting for sales meetings, suppliers dropping in and colleagues making things happen every day.
Your mission is simple but mighty: keep the yard clean, tidy, safe, productive and customer ready. You’ll be the person who spots what needs doing, jumps in before being asked, prioritises the right things at the right time and makes sure every vehicle leaves the yard looking sharp and ready to work.
MISSION FOR THE ROLE:
· Own the daily yard check and make sure the site is safe, tidy, organised and ready for action.
· Clean and valet vehicles to a standard that makes customers feel confident from the moment they arrive.
· Check vehicles and ancillary equipment, including tail-lifts, so issues are spotted early and dealt with quickly.
· Keep vehicles accessible, easy to locate and presented in a way that helps the whole operation run smoothly.
· Support the rental team with checking vehicles in and out, keeping the process slick, accurate and customer friendly.
· Report defects promptly, clearly and confidently so the right people can act fast.
· Welcome customers, suppliers and visitors professionally, pointing them in the right direction and creating a great first impression.
· Help with the delivery of new and used vehicles, keeping standards high from arrival to handover.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
· You are a true self-starter: you see what needs doing, take ownership and get moving without waiting to be chased.
· You can prioritise work effectively in a busy yard, balancing urgent tasks, customer needs and team support.
· Vehicles are consistently clean, checked, accessible and ready when customers and colleagues need them.
· The yard feels safe, organised and under control, even when the day gets lively.
· Defects and issues are reported quickly, accurately and to the right people.
· Customers, suppliers and colleagues experience you as helpful, professional, calm and easy to work with.
YOU’LL THRIVE HERE IF YOU HAVE:
· A full UK driving licence.
· HGV Class C licence minimum.
· Good verbal and numerical reasoning skills.
· The ability to stay calm, practical and positive under pressure.
· Confidence, initiative and motivation to make things better every day.
· Strong attention to detail and a neat, disciplined approach to administration.
· Flexibility to switch gears, support the team and keep priorities moving.
· A responsive attitude and willingness to learn, take training and grow with the team.
· Great relationship skills with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
· An understanding that brilliant service is built through the small things done well, every time.
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE:
· A broad understanding of commercial vehicles.
· Experience in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment where priorities can change quickly.
