The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region’s economic development delivery organisation.
From April 2026, we will lead the delivery of regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities.

As our new Business Tourism and Projects Executive, you'll play an important role within the Visitor Economy team, supporting the delivery of business tourism programmes, strategic projects, partner engagement activities, and business development initiatives.
Working closely with the Business Tourism & Events team, you'll help coordinate exhibitions, sales missions, familiarisation visits, and the Conference Ambassador Network, while providing operational support that ensures projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

You'll Be Involved In:
- Supporting Business Tourism Growth Across the Region.
- Help deliver initiatives that attract meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and business events to Birmingham and the West Midlands, supporting activity that benefits the regional visitor economy.
- Coordinating Strategic Programmes and Projects.
- Support the management and delivery of business tourism programmes, events, and initiatives, ensuring activities are completed on time, within budget, and aligned to organisational objectives.
- Building Relationships with Industry Partners
- Work alongside hotels, venues, tourism businesses, universities, local authorities, and industry stakeholders to support collaboration and promote the region as a leading business events destination.
- Supporting the Business Tourism & Events Strategic Lead with programme coordination and reporting across a range of strategic initiatives.
- Assisting with the planning and delivery of exhibitions, sales missions, familiarisation visits, networking events, and Conference Ambassador Network activity.
- Managing and coordinating elements of the strategic business events calendar.
- Providing operational and administrative support to ensure projects and initiatives run smoothly.
- Supporting procurement processes and supplier engagement in line with organisational guidelines and value-for-money principles.
- Maintaining accurate project documentation, records, and reporting information.
- Using CRM systems to record activity, manage campaigns, support events, and contribute to performance reporting.
- Providing support for Convention Bureau services during busy periods, including responding to accommodation and venue enquiries.
- Monitoring inbound enquiries and ensuring opportunities are directed to the appropriate colleagues for follow-up.
- Supporting communications and engagement with Visit + Meet partners, hotels, venues, industry associations, and other key stakeholders.
- Conducting research to support conference bids, partner activities, and ambassador network development.
- Representing WMGC professionally at industry events and stakeholder meetings. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Visitor Economy team and wider organisation to support delivery of strategic objectives.
Essential:
- Experience in an administrative, tourism, events, hospitality, business development, or project support role.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- A proactive and self-motivated mindset with the ability to work independently when required.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills. • Good research and information-gathering capability.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- The ability to handle commercially sensitive information professionally and confidentially.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support a busy team environment.
Desirable:
- A degree or qualification in tourism, event management, business studies, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of the business events, hospitality, tourism, or visitor economy sectors.
- Understanding of conference bidding processes and convention bureau activity.
- Experience working with CRM systems.
- Experience working with external partners, membership organisations, or public-sector stakeholders.
- Awareness of sustainability considerations within the events and tourism sectors.
- Existing relationships within the business events, hospitality, or visitor economy community.
