Job Summary
The Food Bank Volunteer plays a vital role in supporting the organisation’s mission to alleviate hunger within the community. This position involves assisting with the organisation, distribution, and management of food supplies, ensuring that clients receive respectful and efficient service. Volunteers will contribute to creating a welcoming environment and help maintain the smooth operation of the food bank. Duties
- Assist with the sorting, packing, and organising of food donations to ensure items are easily accessible and properly stored.
- Support clients by providing courteous and empathetic customer service during food distribution sessions.
- Maintain accurate records of food distributions using basic organisational tools such as Microsoft Office programmes.
- Help set up and dismantle distribution areas, ensuring the space remains clean and safe for all visitors.
- Support mentoring programmes for new volunteers or community members interested in learning about food security issues.
- Communicate effectively with team members and clients to ensure smooth operations and address any queries or concerns promptly.
- Participate in organising community outreach events or educational programmes related to nutrition and food security.
Requirements
- Proficiency in English with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organisational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Experience or interest in mentoring others, fostering a supportive environment for volunteers and clients alike.
- Basic IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programmes such as Word and Excel.
- Customer service experience is desirable but not essential; a friendly, approachable demeanour is vital.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while demonstrating initiative when needed.
- Respectful attitude towards diverse communities and sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable individuals.
- Commitment to volunteering regularly as scheduled, demonstrating reliability and professionalism.
