Overview
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Handyman/woman to join our dynamic team! In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of our facilities through hands-on maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting. Your expertise will help maintain a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for all staff and visitors. Duties
- General maintenance and repairs throughout the home.
- Internal and external decorating to a high standard.
- Basic plumbing, joinery, painting, tiling and general DIY.
- Preventative repairs to reduce future maintenance issues.
- Daily maintenance inspections across the home.
- Weekly fire alarm testing.
- Weekly fire door inspections.
- Fire door audits and remedial actions.
- Fire safety compliance checks.
- Emergency lighting checks.
- Fire equipment inspections.
- Water temperature monitoring and legionella compliance.
- Monthly health and safety audits.
- Equipment safety checks.
- Wheelchair and mobility equipment inspections.
- Bed, mattress and furniture safety checks.
- Environmental audits.
- Completion of statutory maintenance records.
- Accurate completion of maintenance logs and compliance paperwork.
- Liaising with contractors and ensuring works are completed to a high standard.
- Supporting external inspectors and contractors during visits.
- Ensuring all maintenance records are inspection ready.
- Maintaining gardens, fencing, pathways and all outdoor areas.
- Supporting refurbishment projects throughout the home.
- Room preparation following admissions or departures.
- Responding promptly to maintenance requests.
- Ensuring the home always presents to an exceptional standard.
- Supporting compliance with CQC regulations, Health & Safety legislation and Infection Prevention & Control standards.
- Reporting defects promptly and ensuring remedial actions are completed.
Essential Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- Previous maintenance or building maintenance experience.
- Excellent decorating skills.
- Good all-round practical skills.
- Experience carrying out compliance checks and audits.
- Good understanding of fire safety and health and safety legislation.
- Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
- The ability to work independently and prioritise workloads.
- Strong attention to detail.
- A proactive attitude with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Pride in maintaining high standards.
Experience within a care home, healthcare or supported living environment would be advantageous.
