LTS is looking for an experienced and confident SEND Tutor to provide 1-2-1, face-to-face tuition to a secondary-aged boy who requires a highly personalised approach to learning.
About the Student:
He is a bright, sociable and active young man with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Dyslexia, which can affect how he processes information, manages demands, engages with learning and accesses reading and written work. He responds best to clear, practical and interest-led learning, particularly around bikes, sport, cooking, construction and creative activities.
He may take time to build trust with new adults, but when he feels safe and understood, he can develop positive relationships and communicate confidently, particularly about subjects that interest him. He has a good sense of humour and enjoys talking about food, sport and practical activities.
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver personalised 1-2-1 tuition based around the student's individual needs, interests and EHCP outcomes.
- Adapt English and Maths activities so that learning feels achievable, relevant and purposeful.
- Use practical, functional and interest-led activities to encourage engagement with learning.
- Build confidence and develop positive attitudes towards education.
- Support the student to develop his independence, organisation and ability to engage with learning.
- Recognise signs of anxiety or dysregulation and use appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation.
- Provide clear boundaries while remaining calm, patient and consistent.
- Allow thinking and movement breaks when required and support the student to return to learning.
- Develop a positive relationship through a patient, respectful and non-judgemental approach.
- Work closely with LTS to provide a consistent approach to education and wellbeing.
What We’re Looking For:
- A SEND teacher or tutor with experience working with secondary-aged young people.
- Experience supporting young people with Autism, Dyslexia and demand-avoidant behaviours.
- A calm, confident and consistent approach, with the ability to establish clear boundaries while developing a positive relationship.
- Someone who can act as a positive role model and engage the student through his interests.
- Experience working with young people who have struggled to engage with mainstream education.
- Strong subject knowledge in English and Maths, with the ability to adapt learning appropriately.
- A willingness to use practical, creative and interest-led approaches rather than relying solely on traditional classroom methods.
- The confidence to work independently and adapt sessions according to the student's presentation and engagement.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work positively with the family and LTS team.
- Qualified Teacher Status is preferred but not essential, depending on experience and qualifications.
