Beacon Haven Residential Children’s Home – Dormeads House is a nurturing, child-centred home located on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare. We provide high-quality, therapeutic care for children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs, within a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a committed, experienced and confident Team Lead / Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong residential childcare experience who is ready to step into a senior leadership role and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people.

What the Role Involves
As Team Lead / Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home is safe, well-led, compliant and focused on achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Registered Manager with the day-to-day leadership and operation of the home
- Leading shifts and ensuring staff provide safe, consistent and therapeutic care
- Supervising, mentoring and supporting Residential Support Workers and Senior Support Workers
- Promoting a trauma-informed, nurturing and child-centred approach
- Supporting young people with daily routines, education, independence skills, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
- Assisting with care planning, risk assessments, placement plans and key-working
- Managing incidents calmly and professionally, ensuring accurate recording, reporting and follow-up
- Supporting safeguarding procedures and ensuring concerns are escalated appropriately
- Liaising with social workers, families, schools, health professionals and other external agencies
- Supporting staff development, induction, supervision and team meetings
- Helping to maintain compliance with Ofsted standards, Children’s Homes Regulations and company policies
- Participating in the senior on-call rota as required
Your Working Pattern
- Full-time, permanent role
- Combination of day shifts, sleep-ins and occasional waking nights where required
- Participation in the senior on-call rota
- Shift pattern to be discussed at interview
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Children and Young People, or equivalent
- Experience working in a residential children’s home
- Previous experience leading shifts or supporting staff
- Good understanding of safeguarding, risk management and professional boundaries
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and behaviour support
- Calm, resilient and confident when responding to challenging situations
- Strong communication, recording and organisational skills
- Experience supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs
- Knowledge of Ofsted requirements and Children’s Homes Regulations
Desirable:
- Experience as a Senior Support Worker, Team Leader or Deputy Manager
- Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or willingness to work towards this
- Full UK driving licence
