About the Company
Our client is an established engineering business operating within a high-precision manufacturing environment, supplying components to demanding customers across the engineering sector.
With a strong focus on quality, precision and technical capability, the business is continuing to develop its engineering and quality functions and is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Metrology Engineer.
The successful candidate will join a technically focused team and play a key role in supporting inspection, quality and new product introduction activities.
The Role
As the Senior Metrology Engineer, you will be responsible for developing CMM programmes and inspection methods, supporting quality documentation and ensuring components meet customer and internal quality requirements.
This is a hands-on technical position requiring strong CMM programming experience, with Mitutoyo experience essential.
You will work closely with production, engineering, quality, customers and suppliers, providing technical support on inspection requirements and helping to ensure successful introduction of new products.
Key Responsibilities
- Create CMM programmes using MCOSMOS and Virtual DMIS.
- Develop and improve CMM inspection methods to ensure accurate and efficient measurement.
- Identify suitable fixtures, tooling and probing requirements.
- Complete FAIR packs and PPAP documentation.
- Ensure quality and inspection documentation is available for new products.
- Review customer drawings, specifications and inspection requirements.
- Complete drawing characteristic matrices.
- Support new product introduction and project activities.
- Participate in PFMEA activities.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Deliver CMM and inspection training to production operators.
- Complete correlation and MSA studies.
- Support production teams with CMM and inspection-related issues.
- Liaise directly with customers regarding inspection and measurement queries.
- Manage metrology workloads in line with project plans and deadlines.
- Ensure all activities are completed in line with company quality, health and safety standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve inspection processes, measurement capability and efficiency.
Candidate RequirementsEssential
- Proven experience in a CMM Programming / Metrology Engineering role.
- Mitutoyo CMM experience is essential.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and tolerances.
- Good understanding of metrology and quality standards.
- Experience with FAIRs, PPAPs, correlation studies and MSA.
- Knowledge of MCOSMOS and Virtual DMIS.
- Knowledge of SABRe supplier requirements.
- Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive, accurate and able to work independently.
- Ability to work effectively with production, engineering, quality and customer teams.
Desirable
- Engineering apprenticeship background.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting NPI and new product introduction.
- Experience within aerospace, precision engineering or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience participating in PFMEA activities.
- Experience providing CMM/metrology training to production teams.
