Overview
We’re seeking motivated individuals to join us as Trainee HGV Drivers & Yard Operatives. You will start off as a drivers mate and yard assistant. If suitable you will be progressed to HGV driver with full training being provided. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in commercial driving, vehicle operation, and yard management. You will be trained to operate flatbed trucks and learn the essentials of safe driving, delivery procedures, and yard logistics. Hours of Work
Normal hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday
Additional hours will be required according to business needs and will be paid at 1.5 and 2 x normal hourly rate
Duties
- Assist with the safe loading, unloading, and securing of goods on flatbed trucks using proper techniques and equipment
- Assist with delivery of goods to various locations, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries while maintaining excellent customer service
- Assist with physically demanding elements of the work
- Assist with yard operations including maintaining a clean, safe working environment, and booking stock in / out
- Assist with routine safety checks on vehicles and equipment, reporting any issues promptly to ensure ongoing compliance
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to health & safety, vehicle operation, and cargo handling
Skills
- Full valid driving licence with a minimum of 1 years driving experience
- Basic understanding of commercial driving principles and road safety regulations
- Experience or familiarity with flatbed truck operations is a plus but not essential; training will be provided
- Strong motivation to learn driving skills and develop a professional career in logistics
- Good communication skills for effective teamwork and customer interactions
- Ability to follow instructions carefully and work efficiently
- Prior delivery driver experience is advantageous but not required; we value enthusiasm and willingness to learn
- Commitment to safety standards and attention to detail in vehicle handling and yard activities
This trainee role is designed to support your growth from beginner to skilled HGV driver and Hiab operator while contributing positively to our logistics operations. The work can be physcally demanding so physciall fitness is important.
Pay: From £28,080.00 per year
