Job Description
U&I Care are recruiting a Residential Service Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of our residential and supported living homes, supporting adults with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs.
You will provide strong, values-led leadership, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care while managing staff, resources, and service delivery. The role requires managing the service in line with U&I Care’s Mission and Values, while ensuring full compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009.

You Will Ideally Have
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a residential care setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
- Proven experience supporting adults with learning difficulties, with a strong focus on autism and complex needs
- Sound knowledge of person-centred planning, care and support planning, and risk assessments
- A clear commitment to person-centred approaches in care and support delivery
- Experience in reviewing, monitoring, and improving service delivery
- Confidence in managing staff performance, including supervision and appraisal
- Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring staff in the workplace
- Strong knowledge and understanding of autism
- Excellent leadership and team-working skills
- The ability to identify potential gaps in service and take proactive, effective action
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid experience in people management
- The ability to remain calm and effective when working under pressure
The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, with NVQ Level 5 already achieved or currently working towards it (or an equivalent qualification). A supervisory or team-leading qualification would be highly desirable.
Knowledge Essential
- Current legislation including Health and Social Care Act (2008) (Regulated Activities). Regulations 2014, The Care Act 2014, and Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
- Understanding of the principles of Valuing People and Valuing People Now.
- High level of literacy and numeracy.
- Good IT systems including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge and expectation of CQC and compliance procedures

Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong, visible leadership to ensure the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led, in line with the CQC Fundamental Standards and U&I Care values.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the supported living service, ensuring robust safeguarding practices, risk management, and health and safety systems are embedded and regularly reviewed.
- Ensure each individual’s care and support is person-centred, appropriately assessed, planned, and reviewed in partnership with individuals, families, advocates, and commissioning authorities, in accordance with the Care Act 2014.
- Lead the development and implementation of high-quality support plans, risk assessments, and Positive Behaviour Support strategies, enabling people to live fulfilling lives and achieve meaningful outcomes.
- Embed Active Support principles, promoting independence, choice, dignity, and lifelong learning for people supported.
- Promote a positive, inclusive culture where people are treated with compassion, respect, and dignity, and their rights are upheld at all times.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and appraise staff, ensuring they are competent, confident, and supported to deliver high-quality care.
- Monitor staff performance and address concerns promptly, using coaching, mentoring, and formal processes where required.
- Maintain effective quality assurance and governance systems, including audits, action plans, and service improvement initiatives, ensuring continuous compliance and improvement.
- Ensure accurate, timely record keeping and reporting in line with legislative, contractual, and organisational requirements.
- Manage service operations within agreed budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining high standards of care.
- Work collaboratively with senior management, external professionals, regulators, and stakeholders, including the Care Quality Commission.
- Ensure the service environment is safe, welcoming, and homely, supporting wellbeing, comfort, and independence.
- Act in accordance with Regulation 20 – Duty of Candour, ensuring openness, transparency, and timely reporting of incidents and concerns.
- Maintain continuous professional development, keeping up to date with legislative changes, best practice, and CQC expectations.
