Finance & Administration Manager

Sheila Mays Carpets of Teesside Ltd (SMC Carpets) is one of the UK’s leading specialist flooring contractors, delivering flooring solutions to social housing providers, local authorities and commercial clients throughout the UK.
As our business continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Finance & Administration Manager to take ownership of our finance function while supporting the day-to-day administration of the business.
This is a key management role working closely with the Directors and external accountants.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the business whilst helping improve systems, processes and reporting across the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing all aspects of Xero accounting software
- Preparing monthly management accounts
- Cashflow forecasting and reporting
- Bank reconciliations
- Purchase and sales ledger management
- Credit control
- VAT returns
- CIS returns and subcontractor administration
- Weekly and monthly payroll
- Managing supplier payments and payment runs
- Producing financial reports for Directors
- Assisting with budgeting and forecasting
- Supporting year-end accounts preparation
- Liaising with external accountants
- Maintaining company insurances and compliance records
- General office administration and process improvement
About You
You’ll be someone who enjoys taking ownership and making improvements.
Ideally you’ll have:
- Proven experience in a Finance Manager, Accounts Manager or Senior Bookkeeper role
- Strong knowledge of Xero
- Payroll experience
- CIS knowledge
- VAT experience
- Excellent organisational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Good Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- The ability to prioritise workload and work independently
- Construction or contracting sector experience (desirable but not essential)
- Must have the legal right to work in the UK. Proof of eligibility will be required prior to employment
