Job Summary:
As a Quality Control Operative at SIL, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of products produced on-site and from external suppliers. Working within a small team, you will be responsible for maintaining high-quality standards throughout all stages of production. This role requires a keen eye for detail, and prior experience in quality control is essential. Training will be provided for operating test machines used to verify product standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure all products meet the company’s quality standards at every stage of production.
• Understand and apply tolerances, ensuring all product dimensions are within acceptable measurements.
• Report any quality issues directly to the Workshop Supervisor.
• Inspect products to ensure they meet high-quality standards.
• Sub-assemble parts to ensure fitment accuracy.
• Use test machines to verify parts meet required standards (training provided).
• Ensure goods are correctly labelled and ready for dispatch.
• Rework products that fail quality control inspections.
• Assist in packaging products, ensuring correct quantities and methods are used.
• Adhere to company policies, workplace behaviour, and health and safety standards.
• Properly utilize PPE and ensure it is used correctly.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time.
• Communicate any quality control issues to the following shift or relevant staff.
• Support other areas of the company as needed.
Requirements:
• 1-2 years of experience in a production environment, preferably with quality control responsibilities.
• Basic understanding of injection moulding principles and techniques.
• Basic English and Math skills.
• Computer literacy.
• Physically fit to perform job duties (e.g., standing, lifting, bending).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks accurately and on time.
Desired Characteristics:
• Knowledge of basic engineering principles, particularly in injection moulding.
• Formal quality control qualifications would be beneficial.
• Experience managing or supervising staff is a plus.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
• Frequent bending, lifting, squatting, pushing, and pulling may be required.
Additional Information:
• Reliable commuting to Wigan or a plan to relocate before starting work is required.
• Training will be provided, but previous experience in quality control is essential.
