1st Assistant Greenkeeper
Hainault Golf Club – East London
Salary: £28,000–£31,000 per year, depending on experience
Full-time – 40 hours per week
Weekend rota: 1 in 3 weekends
Hainault Golf Club is a well-established 36-hole parkland golf facility in East London, with a proud history dating back to 1909.
We are looking for a dedicated, motivated and experienced 1st Assistant Greenkeeper to join our greenkeeping team and help us continue to improve the presentation, conditioning and overall standards of our two golf courses.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced greenkeeper who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop their leadership and course management experience.
The Role
Working closely with the Senior Management Team, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the greenkeeping operation.
This is a hands-on position with leadership responsibilities. You will be expected to lead by example, support the wider greenkeeping team and help ensure that course maintenance programmes are delivered safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
You will also have the opportunity to be involved in an exciting new green construction project taking place this autumn, providing valuable experience in a significant course development project.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily management of course maintenance operations
- Lead, support and motivate members of the greenkeeping team
- Help maintain high standards of course presentation across both courses
- Assist with planning and delivering course maintenance programmes
- Monitor course conditions and identify areas for improvement
- Help implement course improvement and development plans
- Operate and maintain greenkeeping machinery and equipment
- Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times
- Support the Senior Management Team with the organisation of daily workloads
- Help lead our upcoming new green construction project
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience working within golf course greenkeeping
- Ideally has previous supervisory or team leadership experience
- Takes pride in delivering excellent course presentation
- Is passionate about continuous improvement
- Has strong leadership and communication skills
- Is reliable, organised and proactive
- Is comfortable working independently as well as part of a team
- Holds relevant PA1, PA2 and PA6 qualifications, or is currently working towards them
- Has a positive attitude and is keen to develop their career within golf course management
Hours
40 hours per week
Weekend working will be required on a rota basis, currently approximately 1 weekend in every 3.
As with most greenkeeping positions, early starts and some flexibility will be required depending on weather, course requirements and planned maintenance.
