We are seeking a versatile Yard & Transport Operations Assistant for a Saturday morning role based at our Downton site. This 3 to 5-hour shift combines on-site depot preparation with occasional local driving duties to keep our transport fleet running smoothly and fully prepared for the week ahead.

Key Responsibilities
- Vehicle Movement & Local Driving:
- Park up and shunt fleet vehicles safely within the yard to optimise space.
- Carry out short, local driving tasks around local and nearby areas as required (e.g., local fleet runs, dropping off/picking up vehicles).
- Scanning & Freight Tracking:
- Scan freight on vehicles using handheld barcode scanners to keep our Transport Management System (TMS) updated.
- Forklift Operations (Light Duty):
- Operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) for minor loading, unloading, or repositions.
- Yard Maintenance & Health & Safety:
- Perform basic Saturday morning site maintenance
Requirements & Experience
- Licences & Certifications:
- Valid Full UK Driving Licence LGV Class 1 or 2 or ability to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles is preferred but not essential. (Clean licence or maximum 3 points preferred for insurance purposes)
- Valid Forklift Truck (FLT Counterbalance) certification is strongly preferred (in-house refresher training considered for experienced operators).
- Skills & Attributes:
- Punctuality: Reliable attendance for the 07:00 start time is essential.
- Driving Confidence: Comfortable driving light commercial vehicles/vans on local roads.
- Tech Literacy: Comfortable using handheld barcode scanners.
- Safety Mindset: Strong awareness of depot Health & Safety (banksman rules, high-vis compliance, blind spots).
What We Offer
- Competitive Hourly Pay: £16.50 per hour - minimum of 3 hours paid even if finish earlier.
- Fixed Weekend Schedule: Up to 5-hour morning shift (07:00–12:00)—finish by midday with your weekend ahead of you.
