Shop Manager — Leathersmith of London, Princess Arcade
Leathersmith of London is seeking an exceptional Shop Manager for its flagship boutique in Princes Arcade, Central London, between Jermyn Street and Piccadilly.
This is an opportunity to represent a distinguished British brand known for beautifully made leather-bound diaries, notebooks and small leather goods, alongside an expanding collection of travel bags, briefcases, scarves and ready-to-wear. The shop will also introduce Leathersmith’s first collection of hand-crafted sterling silver writing instruments, made in England.
The Shop Manager will create a refined, personal and memorable customer experience, while leading the day-to-day operation of the boutique.
The role
Reporting directly to the CEO and owner, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the shop and for leading a small team comprising one full-time and one part-time colleague.
You will be the principal ambassador for Leathersmith of London: sharing the story, craftsmanship and quality behind every product, and ensuring every customer receives thoughtful, knowledgeable and attentive service.
Key responsibilities
· Lead, motivate and develop the boutique team, ensuring the brand’s values and service standards are consistently delivered.
· Manage all day-to-day shop operations, including opening and closing procedures, rotas, stock, merchandising, cash handling and administration.
· Deliver a highly personalised luxury retail experience for both UK and international customers.
· Develop strong product knowledge across diaries, notebooks, leather goods, travel accessories, ready-to-wear and sterling silver writing instruments.
· Promote and oversee the personalisation service, guiding customers through leather and paper selections in the dedicated consultation area and arranging on-site initialling.
· Drive sales performance and work towards agreed monthly targets.
· Maintain exceptional standards of presentation, organisation and visual merchandising throughout the boutique.
· Build long-term customer relationships and encourage repeat visits, gifting and bespoke orders.
· Provide regular updates and feedback to the CEO on sales, customer activity, stock and operational needs.
About you
· At least three years’ experience in a management or senior sales position within luxury fashion, luxury accessories, premium stationery or a comparable high-end retail environment.
· A natural host with a genuine appreciation for craftsmanship, design, quality and exceptional service.
· Strong leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to create a positive and high-performing small team.
· Highly organised, reliable and commercially aware, with excellent attention to detail.
· Confident communicating with a discerning and international clientele.
· Experience of achieving sales targets and maintaining first-class retail standards.
· Additional language skills would be an advantage, given the boutique’s Central London location and international customer base.
Working hours
The shop is open:
· Monday to Saturday: 10.00am–6.00pm
· Sunday: 12.00pm–6.00pm
The position is based on a 40-hour working week, with flexibility required to support the needs of the business.
Salary and benefits
£30,000 gross per annum (£2500 per month), based on a 40-hour working week.
In addition, a monthly performance bonus if the sales targets are achieved.
