Garage Solutions is a well-established, family-run garage specialist based in Thornton-Cleveleys, covering Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre.
We're looking for a Garage Door Engineer — or a mechanically minded person who has the right skills and attitude to train as one.
You do not need previous garage door experience.
We're particularly interested in people from mechanical, maintenance, engineering, installation or service backgrounds who enjoy fault-finding, problem-solving and working with their hands.
Previous experience as a mechanical fitter, maintenance engineer, service engineer, gate/barrier engineer, industrial door engineer, plant fitter, vehicle technician or similar could transfer extremely well into this role.
The Role
You'll be trained to install, service, repair and diagnose faults on domestic garage doors and electric operators.
The work is varied and involves much more than simply fitting a product. You'll need to understand how different mechanisms work, identify faults and find practical solutions when things aren't quite as expected.
Typical work includes:
- Installing up-and-over, side-hinged and sectional garage doors
- Installing and setting up electric garage door operators
- Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
- Replacing springs, cables, rollers and other components
- Adjusting and repairing existing garage doors
- Measuring, drilling, fixing and accurately setting up equipment
- Carrying out servicing and preventative maintenance
- Completing job sheets and before/after photographs using a smartphone
- Speaking professionally with customers and explaining completed work
- Keeping your van, tools and work areas organised
You'll normally work as part of a two-person team, although experienced engineers will also carry out certain jobs independently.
Who We're Looking For?
We're more interested in mechanical ability and problem-solving skills than a particular trade background.
You'll need to be someone who can look at a mechanism, understand how it works and work out why it isn't working properly.
We're looking for someone who:
- Is mechanically minded and enjoys fault-finding
- Has good practical and hand-tool skills
- Can measure and work accurately
- Takes pride in doing a job properly
- Can think for themselves when something unexpected happens
- Is reliable, organised and punctual
- Is comfortable dealing directly with customers
- Wants to learn a specialist trade and develop within it
- Holds a full UK driving licence
Experience in garage doors is an advantage, but not essential for the right person.

- £30,000–£35,000 salary, depending on skills and experience

Career Progression
We're looking for somebody who wants to make garage door engineering their trade, rather than simply fill a position for a few months.
For someone joining us without garage door experience, we'll provide the training and practical experience needed to progress through the role:
Trainee Garage Door Engineer → Garage Door Engineer → Senior Engineer / Team Leader
