About the role
Infinity Eng Ltd is seeking an experienced, self-employed Temporary Works Coordinator to support temporary works activities across a range of construction, utilities and civil engineering projects.
The role involves coordinating the design, checking, installation, use and removal of temporary works in accordance with project procedures and current industry standards.
This is not necessarily a permanently site-based position. However, attendance will be required at key stages and whenever site conditions, temporary works risks or project requirements make it necessary.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate temporary works activities throughout the project lifecycle
- Establish, maintain and regularly update the Temporary Works Register
- Prepare and review temporary works design briefs
- Ensure temporary works designs receive the appropriate level of checking and approval
- Confirm that current drawings, calculations and instructions are available to site teams
- Liaise with designers, contractors, engineers, site managers and Temporary Works Supervisors
- Verify that site conditions correspond with the assumptions made in the approved design
- Coordinate inspections before temporary works are loaded, brought into use, altered or dismantled
- Issue or coordinate permits to load, use and dismantle where required
- Ensure temporary works are installed, maintained and removed in accordance with approved designs and procedures
- Refer proposed changes, departures and unexpected site conditions to the appropriate designer
- Monitor the work of site-based Temporary Works Supervisors
- Identify and escalate temporary works risks, defects and non-conformances
- Attend site and project meetings when required
- Maintain accurate design, inspection, approval and handover records
- Exercise the authority to stop temporary works activities where safety or compliance is in doubt
- Support compliance with BS 5975, CDM 2015 and project-specific temporary works procedures
Essential requirements
- Current CITB Temporary Works Coordinator training or an equivalent recognised qualification
- Previous experience coordinating temporary works on construction, utilities or civil engineering projects
- Good working knowledge of BS 5975 and temporary works management procedures
- Ability to interpret temporary works drawings, design information and technical documentation
- Strong understanding of design briefs, checking categories, inspections and permit procedures
- Excellent organisational, communication and record-keeping skills
- Confidence working with designers, contractors, site teams and project stakeholders
- Ability to manage several temporary works items or projects simultaneously
- Willingness and ability to attend sites as required
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable experience
- Excavation support, trench systems and earthworks
- Working platforms and crane platforms
- Scaffolding, access systems and edge protection
- Formwork, falsework and propping
- Hoardings, fencing and site compounds
- Utilities, pipeline or infrastructure projects
- Experience working with site-based Temporary Works Supervisors
Site attendance
The Temporary Works Coordinator will not necessarily be required to remain onsite continuously. The required level of attendance will depend on the complexity and risk associated with the temporary works.
Site attendance may be required to:
- Review actual site conditions
- Attend temporary works inspections
- Address changes or unexpected conditions
- Support critical installation or dismantling activities
- Confirm readiness before permits are issued
- Investigate defects, damage or departures from the design
Where appropriate, day-to-day monitoring may be carried out by an appointed Temporary Works Supervisor who reports to the Temporary Works Coordinator.
