Maths Teacher: Secondary PRU, Dagenham
£180 to £250 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start
Axcis are working with a secondary Pupil Referral Unit in Dagenham, Barking and Dagenham, who are seeking a strong and engaging Maths Teacher to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
The successful candidate will teach Mathematics across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE and Functional Skills Maths. Pupils may have experienced disrupted education, exclusion or difficulties engaging within mainstream settings and will require a teacher who can make Maths accessible, practical and relevant.
The school needs a subject specialist with genuine classroom presence, strong behaviour management and the personality to build relationships with young people without lowering expectations. This role is based in Dagenham and is accessible from Barking, Becontree, Chadwell Heath, Rainham, Romford and surrounding areas.
About the Maths Teacher Role:
You will deliver structured and engaging Maths lessons to small groups of secondary-aged pupils with a range of academic and behavioural needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering Maths lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Teaching GCSE Mathematics and Functional Skills Maths
- Delivering Functional Skills from Entry Level through to Level 2
- Assessing pupils' starting points and identifying gaps in knowledge
- Making Maths practical, relevant and accessible
- Differentiating lessons for pupils with varied levels of attainment
- Re-engaging pupils who may have low confidence in education
- Establishing clear classroom routines and high expectations
- Managing challenging behaviour calmly and confidently
- Using positive behaviour-management and de-escalation strategies
- Building strong professional relationships while maintaining authority
- Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate assessment records
- Working closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and senior leaders
- Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and professional conduct
Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Strong subject knowledge as a Maths specialist
- Previous experience teaching Mathematics at secondary level
- Experience teaching GCSE and Functional Skills Maths
- Excellent behaviour management and classroom leadership
- A confident, engaging and personable teaching style
- Strong classroom presence and the ability to command respect
- Ability to make Maths relevant to employment and everyday life
- Confidence teaching pupils who may be reluctant to engage
- A calm, resilient and consistent approach
- Experience within a PRU, alternative provision or SEMH setting is highly desirable
- Strong communication, teamwork and safeguarding awareness
- Full-time availability and commitment from September
