Assistant SEND Music Tutor (Freelance, Part-Time)
Location: Harrow & Hillingdon Area
Start: Last Saturday in August and running on Saturdays 2:30-4:30pm during term time from September (tentative, subject to change), training to commence as soon as possible
Contract Type: Freelance, Part-Time (Expected hours: 2 per week)
Little Voices is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and musical Assistant Tutor to support our lead tutor in delivering engaging, inclusive singing, music and drama lessons, specifically assisting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role is centered on creating a positive and supportive learning environment, with a strong focus on effective communication and patient support.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Lead Tutors to deliver engaging group singing, music and drama lessons.
- Provide focused, patient, and calm support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Actively contribute to a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment that promotes confidence and participation for all children.
- Assist with the musical elements of the lessons, utilizing singing and musical ability to support the pupils.
- Be observant and flexible, adapting teaching approaches to meet different communication styles and learning needs.
- Willingly learn and implement communication methods such as Makaton Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to enhance student accessibility.
- Uphold all safeguarding and health & safety protocols, reporting any concerns immediately.
- Assist with administrative duties such as setting up, cleaning instruments/mats, and providing tea and biscuits for families.
The successful candidate will be:
- Patient, calm, and highly observant, with the ability to adapt quickly.
- Musical and possess a secure and tuneful singing voice.
- A committed and reliable team member, ensuring consistency for the benefit of the children.
- Someone with excellent communication skills, confident in liaising with children, parents, and team.
- Passionate about working with SEND students and dedicated to continuing professional development in relevant communication styles (e.g., Makaton).
The following are mandatory requirements for this freelance role:
- Right to work in the United Kingdom as a freelancer.
- An Enhanced DBS Check (on the update service). This is not paid for by us, but we can help organise this process if required.
- Current Public Liability Insurance (must obtain prior to starting).
- The ability to provide satisfactory professional references.
- Pediatric First Aid (12 hr) training (not provided by us, but we can help arrange)
- Successful completion of required in-house training, including Safeguarding, Fire Marshal, GDPR, and Little Voices Tutor Training (all provided by us).3
Pay: £30 per 2 hour session.
