Role Overview
ABPAC is the UK’s leading distributor of packaging to the bakery, food-to-go and food-processing sectors — and we’re growing. We’re looking for a driven Business Development & Area Sales Manager to take ownership of a regional territory, win new business, and grow existing accounts with packaging solutions that genuinely help our customers succeed.
This is a field-based role with real autonomy. You’ll run your territory like it’s your own business — planning your week, building relationships with bakeries, cafés, patisseries, food processors and food-to-go operators, and turning opportunities into long-term partnerships. Key Responsibilities
1. Own & Grow Your Territory
- Take full ownership of sales performance across your designated region
- Build and execute a territory plan that grows revenue and market share
- Prioritise your time and pipeline around the biggest opportunities
2. Win New Business
- Identify, target and win new customers — bakeries, cafés, patisseries, food processors and food-to-go operators
- Proactively prospect, generate leads and open doors with new decision-makers
- Convert opportunities into profitable, long-term accounts
3. Manage & Develop Accounts
- Build strong, trusted relationships with existing customers and key decision-makers
- Understand each customer’s business and recommend tailored packaging solutions
- Grow account value through cross-selling, upselling and outstanding service
4. Sell Consultatively
- Run sales visits, presentations and product demonstrations that show real value
- Position ABPAC’s innovative and sustainable packaging as the smart choice
- Negotiate and close deals that work for both the customer and the business
5. Plan, Forecast & Use the Tools
- Manage your pipeline end-to-end in the CRM — from first enquiry to repeat order
- Prepare accurate sales forecasts, reports and performance analysis using Power BI
- Keep customer and opportunity data clean, current and reliable
6. Stay Ahead of the Market
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity and changing customer needs
- Feed insight and new opportunities back to the management team
- Spot gaps in the market — and act on them first
7. Represent ABPAC
- Represent the company at trade shows, industry events and networking functions
- Build brand visibility and generate new leads
- Collaborate with marketing, product and customer service teams to deliver for customers
Skills & Experience
Essential
- A proven track record in B2B or field sales, consistently meeting or beating targets
- Genuine new-business ability — confident prospecting, opening doors and closing
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated and highly organised — able to run your own territory and diary
- Comfortable with CRM systems, Microsoft Office and reporting tools (e.g. Power BI)
- Full UK driving licence and happy to travel across your territory
Desirable (not essential)
- Experience selling into the bakery, food-to-go or food-processing sectors
- Knowledge of the packaging industry and its customers
- Experience of consultative or solution-based selling
- Familiarity with an ERP or product system (e.g. Business Central)
- A degree in Business, Marketing or a related field
