Overview
We require a Veterinary Care Assistant to join our team. The candidate will provide compassionate, high-quality care to animals and support to our veterinary professionals. In this energetic role, you will assist with clinical procedures, ensure the well-being of our patients, and contribute to a positive experience for pet owners. We would require the candidate to start their employment in our practice ideally within the next 8 weeks. There will be a 12 week probationary period.
The suitable candidate will be ready to start Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (apprenticeship pathway) in early 2027.
We are an extremely busy practice and candidates should be able to work in a fast paced environment whilst working closely in a small team.
Duties
- Support veterinarians and veterinary nurses during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures
- Assist with animal restraint, handling, and monitoring vital signs to ensure patient safety and comfort
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilisation of surgical instruments, kennels, and treatment areas
- Prepare laboratory samples for testing and assist with basic laboratory procedures to aid in diagnosis
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating with pet owners about their pets’ care and post-treatment instructions
- Monitor animals during recovery periods and record observations accurately in medical records
- Restock supplies regularly and ensure all equipment is functioning properly for daily operations
Qualifications
- Previous veterinary experience or related animal care background is highly preferred
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with team members and pet owners
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Compassionate attitude towards animals and their families, with a proactive approach to patient care
- Ability to follow safety protocols diligently and maintain a clean working environment
Pay: From £12.71 per hour
