As our client base grows, we are looking for a Client Manager who can combine strong technical capability with proactive client service and team support.
The role
This is a hands-on, client-facing position with real ownership. You will manage a portfolio of clients and act as their main point of contact for recurring accounts and tax work, year-end discussions, management information and general business queries. You will also help plan workflow and ensure jobs move efficiently through to completion.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a varied portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients
- Prepare and/or review statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
- Prepare and/or review corporation tax returns and self-assessment returns
- Review VAT work, bookkeeping and management accounts where relevant
- Act as the primary point of contact for client queries and support clients proactively throughout the year
- Liaise with HMRC and Companies House as required
- Review junior team members’ work, provide feedback and support development
- Help manage deadlines, workflow, WIP and job progression across the portfolio
- Identify opportunities for tax efficiencies, advisory work and process improvements
- Attend client meetings and contribute to a consistently high standard of service
What we are looking for
- Recent UK accountancy practice experience in a client management, accounts senior or assistant manager capacity
- Strong technical ability across statutory accounts, corporation tax, personal tax, VAT and general compliance work
- Experience reviewing work and supporting junior colleagues
- ACA / ACCA / CTA / ATT qualified preferred; finalist, AAT-qualified or QBE candidates with strong relevant experience will also be considered
- Good working knowledge of cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage
- Experience with practice software such as IRIS, TaxCalc, CCH or similar is highly desirable
- Strong Excel and general systems skills
- Organised, deadline-focused and confident communicating with clients
- Commercially aware, proactive and comfortable spotting ways to improve service and add value
