GHP South Ltd are looking for a reliable and hardworking Supply Pipe & Groundworks Assistant to join our team and work alongside an experienced member of our supply pipe team.
This is an opportunity to become involved in a varied role working on underground water supply pipe replacements, leak repairs, leak detection and associated groundworks.
You will regularly be working on customers’ properties, representing GHP South Ltd and working on behalf of local water suppliers, so a professional attitude and good customer service are essential.
The Role
The successful candidate will assist with a range of supply pipe and groundworks activities, including:
- Excavating and safely exposing existing underground services and supply pipes.
- Assisting with underground water supply pipe replacements and repairs.
- Backfilling excavations correctly and safely.
- Assisting with leak detection and leak-finding investigations.
- Assisting with hydraulic moling and associated works where required.
- Learning and carrying out different types of reinstatement, including paving, slabs, concrete and tarmac.
- Keeping work areas clean, tidy and safe.
- Working as part of a two-person team and following instructions from the team leader.
- Working on customers’ properties in a professional and respectful manner.
- Completing work to the required standards of the water supplier and GHP South Ltd.
- Taking photographs and completing job documentation as required.
What We Are Looking For
The most important qualities we are looking for are reliability, a good attitude and a willingness to learn.
You will need to:
- Be reliable and punctual.
- Be physically fit and comfortable carrying out manual groundworks.
- Be able to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Have the ability to use your own initiative when required.
- Take pride in your work and want to complete jobs to a good standard.
- Be willing to learn new skills and develop within the role.
- Have a professional attitude when working on customers’ properties.
- Understand the importance of health and safety.
- Hold a full UK driving licence, or be working towards one, ideally.
Experience
Experience in groundworks, water supply work, plumbing, reinstatement, leak detection or similar work would be an advantage.
Someone who already has experience in supply pipe work and understands the type of work we undertake would be ideal.
However, we are also interested in someone who may not have direct experience but has the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn. Training will be provided where appropriate.
Salary
Salary will be dependent on experience and ability.
We recognise that someone who already has relevant experience and can contribute effectively from day one will be able to command a higher salary than someone starting out in the industry.
For the right person, there will also be the opportunity to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility as their experience grows.
About the Role
This is a hands-on position and is not simply a labouring role. You will have the opportunity to learn and develop a range of skills within the water supply, groundworks and reinstatement sectors.
You will work closely with an experienced team member and will be expected to develop the skills required to eventually undertake more of the work independently.
The work can be varied, and no two properties or jobs are necessarily the same. The ability to adapt, think practically and work well as part of a team is therefore important.
