About the Role
Are you an experienced Refrigeration & Air Conditioning engineer looking to step off the tools and shape the next generation of engineers? Or an established Lecturer/Assessor looking for a new challenge?
We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Lecturer / Assessor to deliver high-quality teaching, practical training, and assessment to our apprentices and commercial learners. You’ll play a key role in delivering Level 2 and Level 3 RACHP apprenticeship qualifications, F gas, hydrocarbon, brazing and more general refrigeration and air-conditioning short courses, guiding students from fundamental principles to real-world workshop applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach & Train: Deliver engaging practical and theoretical lessons covering refrigeration systems, air conditioning unit installation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis.
- Assess & Support: Conduct college-based assessments, tracking student progress against apprenticeship standards and course learning outcomes.
- Curriculum Delivery: Help design and update course materials to align with the latest industry standards and F-Gas regulations.
- Mentorship: Support learners in developing strong, safe, and professional habits for the workforce.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain high health and safety standards in the workshop and ensure full compliance with awarding body standards.
What We’re Looking For-
Must-Haves:
- Strong industry experience in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning installation, servicing, and maintenance (minimum 3 years post level 3 certification).
- Level 3 NVQ/Diploma (or equivalent trade qualification) in RACHP.
- Valid F-Gas (Cat 1) certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage learners of all backgrounds.
- A reasonable level of IT ability.
- Good communication skills.
Nice-to-Haves (Training Provided for the Right Candidate):
- Recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 3/4 AET) or willingness to work toward one.
- Recognized assessor qualification (e.g., TAQA, CAVA, A1) or willingness to work toward one.
- Previous experience teaching, mentoring apprentices, or assessing in FE (Further Education) or private training settings.
- Hydrocarbon refrigerant qualification
- Brazing qualification
- CO² qualification
- Ammonia (R717) qualification

The bit to consider
- The job is in Plymouth; Plymouth will not move. The successful candidate must be able to travel to Plymouth daily or relocate. However, for those further away, Devon and Cornwall can be beautiful places to live.
