The Opportunity
We are looking for an organised, proactive and experienced Night Logistics Supervisor to take responsibility for the smooth running of our overnight transport operation.
This is a hands-on role in which you will coordinate drivers, monitor deliveries, manage operational issues and ensure our transport operation runs safely, efficiently and to schedule throughout the night.
You will be a key point of contact for drivers, customers and the wider transport team, making informed decisions and resolving issues as they arise. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and can remain calm, organised and proactive under pressure.
The Role:
- Manage supplier relationships, ensuring they are paid in a timely manner by the processing of invoices on our bespoke trading system.
- Assist in all sales, procurement and haulage administration.
- Check haulage confirmations, remittance and deal with any queries.
- Working as part of a designated team and being supportive to other team members including willingness to cover duties during times of absence and holidays.
- Communicate with both internal and external contacts to track paid and outstanding purchases.
- Other office duties include inputting customs duty onto the correct consignments.
- To maintain 100% accurate records of sales, procurement and logistical transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Transport and Logistics Operations
- Oversee and coordinate the overnight transport operation.
- Dispatch and debrief HGV drivers.
- Monitor delivery progress, vehicle movements and operational performance.
- Ensure deliveries are completed safely, accurately and on time.
- Provide a detailed handover to the day shift team.
Fleet and Driver Support
- Ensure vehicles and drivers are ready for overnight operations.
- Monitor vehicle tracking systems and respond proactively to issues.
- Liaise with the maintenance team regarding defects, breakdowns and vehicle availability.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers throughout the shift.
Problem Solving
- Respond quickly and effectively to delays, breakdowns and operational issues.
- Make informed decisions to minimise disruption to customers and the business.
- Escalate significant issues where necessary.
Customer and Team Communication
- Act as a key point of contact for drivers and customers during the night.
- Keep customers informed of delivery progress and any potential delays.
- Maintain clear communication with the transport, warehouse and management teams.
Compliance and Administration
- Support compliance with transport legislation, company policies and health and safety requirements.
- Monitor drivers’ hours and compliance procedures.
- Complete driver debriefs and ensure all paperwork is accurate and returned.
- Complete shift reports, recording operational issues, incidents and key information.
- Maintain accurate records in transport management and tracking systems.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in transport, logistics or warehouse operations, ideally in a supervisory role.
- Highly organised and proactive, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
- A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Able to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
- Comfortable using transport management systems and vehicle tracking software.
- Knowledgeable about transport compliance, drivers’ hours and health and safety requirements.
- Flexible and willing to respond to changing operational requirements.
A Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) would be advantageous but is not essential.
