We are currently recruiting for a Legal Assistant / Paralegal to assist our busy Child Law team based at our Leeds office. This is a highly regarded team across North and West Yorkshire – the successful candidate would gain considerable experience and training from a very successful team.
The successful candidate will be confident with a passion to learn and an ability to get the job done. You will have at least 12 months experience on child care matters from instruction to completion. The department works as a team and support will always be given. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to build relationships at all levels, both internal and external.
This position would ideally suit someone looking to a long term career within child law.
To prepare correspondence and documents through audio-typing
- Administration of client files, which will include daily electronic filing and the opening
- Gain training on using bespoke legal software, ie. court portal/ Legal aid portal and our bespoke case management system
- To make appointments, arrange meetings and to maintain an up-to-date diary for their fee earner.
- Attend to clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care.
- Endeavour to resolve client queries where applicable without fee earner intervention and pass any urgent and/or outstanding issues to the fee earner for guidance.
- Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement and development.
- To have full working knowledge of IT systems, including Outlook / Excel / Teams / Word
- Ensuring all relevant information entered onto case management system, including your preparation of legal documents
- At all times exercise high standards of client care in a professional and pleasant manner, including Liaising with court, barrister’s clerks and experts appointed by the court
- Working with your fee earner to achieve their fee target in line with the firm’s business plan
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of all of the firm’s and client documentation and information
- General assistance and support in the department
