Your Duties:
To support the maintenance and development of parks, playing fields and open spaces, ensuring high standards are achieved, including but not limited to:
- Maintaining grounds through sweeping, hoeing, raking, mowing, edging and removal of litter and waste.
- Carrying out soil cultivation, manuring, site preparation and basic construction work.
- Undertaking grass cutting, hedge trimming and pruning duties.
- Using powered hand tools and light plant equipment safely and effectively.
- Loading, unloading and transporting equipment and materials such as mowers, tools, plants, soil and fertilisers.
- Ensuring all tools and equipment are maintained in good working order, including cleaning and basic maintenance.
- Carrying out turfing and seed sowing activities.
- Supporting the maintenance of sports and games areas, including marking, fertilising and upkeep.
- Assisting with horticultural operations, including planting, cultivation and pest/disease control.
- Applying chemical pest control methods in line with regulations.
- Operating tractor-mounted equipment where required.
- Supporting communication within the team and with line management.
- Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health and safety legislation and council policies.
- Assisting in the training and support of other staff where required.
- Participating in training and development activities.
- Undertaking additional duties as reasonably required in line with the role.
Your Profile:
Essential Criteria:
- NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- PA1 and PA6 Pesticide Application Certificates.
- At least one year’s relevant experience in:
- Gardening and horticultural work (e.g. grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, turfing, seed sowing, litter removal).
- Dealing with members of the public in a face-to-face environment.
Desirable/Shortlisting Criteria:
- At least two years’ relevant experience in the areas outlined above.
- NVQ Level 3 in Amenity Horticulture or an equivalent higher-level qualification.
Additional Information:
- Location: Upper Malone Road, Belfast.
- Full-time, temporary position.
- 37 hours per week.
- Shift pattern, Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 15:30, Friday: 07:30 – 15:00.
