The HR Booth are delighted to be recruiting a Grid and Electrical Engineer on behalf of SAE Renewables.
Who are SAE Renewables?
SAE Renewables are a global developer, owner and operator of renewable and sustainable energy projects which includes MeyGen the world’s flagship tidal stream project and the Uskmouth Sustainable Energy Park.
SAE are the owners of the Uskmouth Sustainable Energy Park and surrounding land outside Newport in South Wales. We are in the process of rapidly repurposing the site through the development of large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects which are essential for UK Government to meet net zero targets. SAE also own and operate the MeyGen tidal energy project which has a major 132kV consented transmission connection, with circa 300MW capacity securing and planning submitted at this location to enable us to build and operate a large-scale BESS project alongside the tidal energy array.
What will you be doing?
SAE is now seeking to recruit an experienced Grid and Electrical Engineer to work alongside our site teams and take responsibility for delivering all electrical work packages for our BESS projects.
The immediate focus will be on delivery of a 120MW BESS at Uskmouth which has now received planning permission and aiming to start construction in Q1 2025 to meet the 2026 connection date.
The project will be delivered as a two-package contract strategy plus the grid connection.
Some of your key responsibilities will be:

Ensure all works are designed and delivered in a safe manner.

Work Package Manager for all grid connection and HV works needed to connect our BESS projects to the grid.

Management the grid compliance UDFS process to achieve the necessary approvals in line with the project programme.

Management of all Electrical (132kV to 33kV to LV) and control system interfaces between National Grid, Balance of Plant contractor and the BESS supply contract.

Management of technical and control interfaces between the project and the Route to Market provider ensuring all necessary metering arrangements are in place to enable commercial operations in line with the project programme.

Detailed review of all project electrical engineering designs and deliverables (drawings, reports, calculations, test plans and reports, etc…).

Act as point of contact and establishing good working relationships with all contractor’s and suppliers’ electrical leads. Establishing and managing an efficient technical query process during detailed design and construction.

Supervision and witness of installation works, equipment and systems tests and commissioning.

Attendance of FAT, SAT, and Tests on Completion as required to ensure employers requirements have been complied with prior to take over.

Assist in the preparation and review of the electrical aspects of site-specific health and safety plans and risk assessments.

Providing input and review into the development of all electrical workstreams which impact the Project Programme reporting into the BESS Project Manager.

Assist with Electrical design and grid connection application work in the development of SAE’s BESS portfolio.

Supporting technical due diligence pre-financial close and any technical queries from funders during project execution.

Assist with tendering and tender evaluation for future SAE BESS projects.

Assisting with management of grid connection application and modifications for future SAE BESS projects.

Ensuring Risks and Opportunities are identified, documented, and managed.

About You
You should possess the following:

Have extensive experience in grid connecting renewable energy projects
-
A proven track record working on the client side managing complex technical interfaces between contracts.

Education to degree level in a relevant technical discipline (Finance, Legal, Electrical or Civil or Mechanical Engineering), a second degree is advantageous.

Extensive experience required in leading the development and delivery of BESS projects, including track record in taking large scale BESS projects from pre-EPC stage through to commercial operations.

Contract management, experienced with FIDIC based contracts an advantage.

Understands and has experience in managing multi-contract development and execution.

Fully conversant with Project Management Systems with extensive knowledge of Project Development/ Delivery / Construction Execution, practices, and procedures.

Relevant construction management experience.

Effective leadership skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation including the Board.

Strong understanding of key project drivers and project management principles.
-
Ability to work as part of a team and organise own workload often dealing with competing priorities.

Excellent contractual and commercial expertise with knowledge of project finance being desirable.

Ability to work proactively and independently with minimal guidance.
-
Able to travel regularly to attend FAT or to work on other construction sites in SAE portfolio.

Fluent English speaker.
