Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), ensuring they operate efficiently and safely. Duties
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs, including lorries, excavators, and forklifts.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using schematics and diagnostic tools.
- Perform repairs involving welding, soldering, fabrication, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Replace or repair faulty components such as brakes, engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs and maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist with the assembly of vehicle components and equipment repairs as required.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations to promote a safe working environment.
- Support the team with heavy lifting tasks and equipment handling to facilitate repairs or replacements.
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in heavy vehicle maintenance.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and technical manuals.
- Skilled in welding, soldering, fabrication, electrical work, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Experience with equipment repair including excavators, forklifts, and other plant machinery.
- Ability to perform assembly tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Good customer service skills when liaising with internal teams or external clients regarding repairs or maintenance schedules.
- Capable of heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks in a safe manner.
