Senior Residential Support Worker – Children’s Residential Home
Ready for your next step? We’re looking for a compassionate and experienced Senior Residential Support Worker to join a specialist Children’s Residential Home, supporting young people with learning disabilities and complex needs to live safe, happy, and fulfilling lives.
The Role
As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you’ll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day care of young people while also taking on additional responsibility within the team. Working closely with the management team and experienced support staff, you will help ensure high standards of care, consistency, and positive outcomes across the home.
You will contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where young people can thrive and develop independence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting young people with daily care, development, and emotional wellbeing
- Promoting positive routines, independence, and life skills
- Leading by example within the care team and supporting junior staff
- Building positive, appropriate, and consistent relationships with young people
- Supporting education, homework, leisure activities, and community engagement
- Assisting with appointments, meetings, and family contact arrangements
- Contributing to care planning, record keeping, and progress monitoring
- Ensuring safeguarding, compliance, and quality standards are consistently met
- Supporting young people who may present behaviours that challenge, using positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques
- Working in partnership with families, social workers, and other professionals
- Supporting household responsibilities including cooking, shopping, and domestic tasks
- Acting as a shift lead when required, ensuring smooth running of the home
- Working a rolling rota pattern including sleep-ins and weekends
About You
We are looking for resilient, motivated, and caring individuals who are passionate about making a difference.
You will:
- Hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – essential
- Have experience working with children and young people in a residential setting
- Have experience supporting young people with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioural difficulties, or complex needs
- Understand safeguarding and child development principles
- Be confident managing behaviours that challenge using positive behaviour support
- Have strong communication and written record-keeping skills
- Be able to work well within a team and take initiative when required
- Demonstrate commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to drive as part of the role
- Be flexible to work a rolling shift pattern including long days and sleep-ins

About the Client
Our client is a specialist provider of residential care services for children and young people with learning disabilities and additional support needs. They deliver person-centred care within safe, structured environments that promote independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
The home supports up to seven young people with learning disabilities, including non-verbal young people requiring highly individualised support. Staffing ratios are designed around individual needs to ensure each young person receives the appropriate level of care.
Working Pattern
This role operates on a rolling rota, including long-day shifts, weekends, and sleep-ins. The home currently operates a 2-days-on, 3-days-off rota pattern, with shifts typically running from 7:00am to 10:00pm.
