Operations Manager
- Salary: From £42,000, with scope to rise based on experience and performance. Strong candidates will be in the £45,000 to £48,000 range.
- Hours: Monday to Thursday, 07:00 to 17:00 (four-day working week)
- Location: Sharpness, GL13 9UQ
The Opportunity
We're looking for an Operations Manager to take ownership of production at a flexible packaging manufacturer with almost 40 years in the industry. It's a hands-on role. When an order is scheduled, you make sure it gets resourced, produced, quality-checked, and dispatched on time.
You report directly to the Managing Director and have real autonomy over how the department runs.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll run the day-to-day production operation across a single site with 10 to 12 direct reports. That includes:
- Executing against the production schedule and managing resources
- Leading daily briefings
- Maintaining BRCGS compliance and overseeing quality
- Coordinating maintenance
- Managing warehouse and dispatch
- Driving continuous improvement and cross-training the team
- Reporting on performance with the data to back it up
You'll be on the shop floor, visible and accountable for what comes off it.
What We're Looking For
You'll have at least three years' experience managing production in a manufacturing environment, with a strong working knowledge of quality systems (BRCGS, BRC, ISO, or equivalent) and practical experience as a day-to-day H&S lead. You're comfortable managing people through difficult conversations as well as easy ones, and you take ownership of outcomes.
Experience in flexible packaging, printing, or converting is a strong bonus, but not a hard requirement.
What We Offer
- Four-day working week (Monday to Thursday) with a three-day weekend
- Paid lunches
- On-site parking
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Autonomy to run your department, with a direct line to the MD
