Company Overview
The Ian Mosey Group, a reputable family owned and operated business based in Coulton near Malton, North Yorkshire. The group consists of three companies and farming partnership. The parent company Ian Mosey Ltd, two subsidiary companies Ian Mosey (Livestock) Ltd and Ian Mosey (Feed) Ltd and BI&BM Mosey which is a mixed arable, cattle and sheep farm.
The principal activity of Ian Mosey (Livestock) Ltd is finishing pigs for the UK pork industry. The majority of these pigs are reared and finished on third party Bed & Breakfast farms across the north of England. The business also operates one pig breeding herd which supply some of the piglets for the finishing operation.
The Role
This is a very practical and hands on role, with responsibility for the day-to-day management of the pig farms around the Coulton area. There is a combination of pig rearing and finishing sites holding circa 5500 pigs in straw yards. You will also be required to assist the fieldsman operating across Yorkshire to ensure efficient running of daily operations.
This is a diverse role which requires an adaptable and practical candidate. Training will be provided to develop your knowledge, skills and efficiency in your job. There will be a view to progress to a more senior role in the company over time when ready for more responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Day to day management of our Bed and Breakfast rearing sites in the Coulton area and to assist our fieldsman team in the Yorkshire area.
- Day to day care of the pigs which will include twice daily walk round checks, feeding, bedding, and administering medicine where required and ensuring welfare standards are maintained to the highest standard.
- Sorting. loading and unloading of the pigs on all the farms within the Coulton area
- You will be responsible for some record-keeping, for example recording medication you have administered and reporting pig deaths.
- At Bed and Breakfast farms across Yorkshire, you will be required to help sort pigs ready for transport and assist the haulage team with loading and unloading pigs.
- As piglets arrive onto Bed and Breakfast farms you will assist with accurately counting the piglets off the wagon, vaccinating, and split sexing them.
- In addition to administering vaccinations to piglets you will be required to deliver and administer medication to pigs where needed.
- When you are not out supporting the pig business you will be based in our farm workshops where we manufacture and repair equipment for the Livestock business and the farm
- Ad hoc responsibilities on the breeding units as and when required.
Please note that, because of our rural location, candidates must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle. A company vehicle will be provided for travel between farm locations.
Schedule:
- Pay – competitive, depending on experience
- 40 hours a week, plus overtime Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability 1 in 4
