Scrutiny Officer – Senior Interim
Hours: 36 Hours Per Week
Contract: Temporary Contract – 24 Weeks

Rate: PAYE £130.39 per day
Work Pattern: Full-time, 36 hours per week; 2 days per week in the office
Start Date: 7 September 2026
We're recruiting a Scrutiny Officer to support the Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committees and contribute to a range of scrutiny reviews, projects and work programmes. This is a key role for an experienced professional with strong research, analytical, project management and communication skills, working closely with elected Members, officers and external partners to support evidence-based recommendations and improvements to public services.
About the Role
As a Scrutiny Officer, you'll support allocated Overview and Scrutiny Committees with agenda preparation, meeting documentation, minutes and committee administration, whilst managing and supporting a range of scrutiny reviews and projects. You will undertake research and evidence gathering, work with elected Members to develop findings and recommendations, coordinate responses to scrutiny recommendations, and provide advice on scrutiny procedures, the Council's Constitution and relevant Member Code of Conduct requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting allocated Overview and Scrutiny Committees with agenda preparation, meeting documentation, minutes and committee administration
- Managing and supporting a range of scrutiny reviews and projects, including project planning, research and evidence gathering
- Working with elected Members to develop review findings, reports and recommendations
- Coordinating the consideration of scrutiny recommendations by Cabinet Members and monitoring subsequent responses and actions
- Developing and coordinating scrutiny work programmes, including visits and sub-group activities
- Providing advice to Members on scrutiny procedures, the Council's Constitution and relevant Member Code of Conduct requirements
- Researching Council services, executive decisions and external organisations to support evidence-based scrutiny and recommendations
- Promoting public awareness and involvement in the Council's scrutiny activities
- Supporting improvements to public engagement, service management and service delivery
