We are delighted to offer this opportunity for an experienced transport planner in Birstall.
Job Summary
We are seeking an organised and proactive Transport Planner to support the daily planning and coordination of bulk chemical transport operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for scheduling tanker movements, ensuring legal compliance, maintaining high safety standards, and delivering efficient transport solutions for customers across the UK.
This role requires strong operational planning skills, the ability to work under pressure, and responsibility for providing out-of-hours on-call support to ensure operational continuity and meet emergency response requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily bulk chemical tanker deliveries and collections.
- Allocate vehicles and drivers efficiently while ensuring compliance with driver hours and transport legislation.
- Monitor fleet movements and respond to operational issues in real time.
- Liaise with drivers, customers, suppliers regarding schedules and delivery updates.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with ADR regulations, health & safety procedures, and company policies.
- Optimise routes and resource utilisation to maximise efficiency and minimise costs.
- Respond to delays, breakdowns, and emergency situations promptly and professionally.
- Act as the permanent on-call contact for the transport department, providing support during evenings and weekends where required.
- Support incident reporting and out-of-hours operational escalation procedures.
- Work closely with maintenance and compliance teams to ensure vehicle availability and legal compliance.
- Deliver high levels of customer service while managing operational priorities.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in transport planning.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, including driver hours and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure and make effective operational decisions.
- Good IT skills, including transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Flexible approach to working hours and participation in an on-call rota.
Desirable
- Knowledge of ADR regulations relating to hazardous goods transport.
- Experience working with tanker operations or chemical distribution.
- Transport Manager CPC qualification

Pay: £32,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
