We’re a specialist employee benefits provider, striving to create healthy, happy workplaces. As part of the international Unum Group, we’re on a collective mission to help the working world thrive.
What will you be doing?
As a Nearly/Newly Qualified Actuary within our Actuarial Risk and Capital team, you'll play a key role in helping Unum understand, manage and optimise its capital position. You'll work with a wide range of stakeholders across Finance and the wider business, analysing experience, supporting capital modelling and helping shape the assumptions that underpin key business decisions.

- Use actuarial judgement to help set assumptions used within capital and risk management activities.
- Support the calibration of capital stresses within Unum's Internal Model framework.
- Produce high-quality reporting and analysis on experience investigations, assumptions and capital outcomes.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of risk and capital methodologies, processes and controls.
- Support a range of change initiatives, strategic projects and capital-related developments across the business.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Finance, Risk and the wider organisation to deliver actuarial insight and business value.
- Present complex actuarial findings in a clear and accessible way to a variety of stakeholders, including senior management.
- Provide guidance, coaching and support to actuarial students, helping contribute to the development of future talent within the team.
- Continuously challenge existing approaches and identify opportunities to improve methodologies, efficiency and effectiveness.
What will you bring?
We're looking for a collaborative and commercially minded actuary who enjoys solving complex problems, challenging assumptions and delivering high-quality work. Whether you're approaching qualification or have already qualified, you'll bring strong technical capability alongside the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
You'll ideally have:
- Be a nearly qualified actuary with 1-2 exams remaining, or a newly qualified actuary with up to 3 years' post-qualified experience.
- Experience gained within Life Insurance, General Insurance or Pensions, with an interest in applying your skills within a new environment.
- Knowledge of Solvency UK and the wider UK regulatory framework.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate meaningful insights.
- Experience of actuarial modelling, assumption setting, experience analysis or capital management activities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach, with experience supporting, mentoring or working closely with actuarial students and colleagues.
- The ability to balance strong technical understanding with commercial awareness and practical decision making.
- A curious mindset, with a desire to understand methodologies, challenge existing approaches and drive continuous improvement.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work across multiple priorities.
- A proactive approach to learning, development and professional growth.
