We are looking for a confident and practical Deputy / Care Manager to support the Home Manager at Nashley House, our residential dementia care home in Weston-super-Mare.
This is a hands-on role, working closely with residents, families and staff to support safe, kind and well-led care. The role will be mainly floor-based, with some office time for care planning, audits, staff supervision, compliance and quality improvement.
You will help lead the care team day to day, support good practice on the floor, monitor care standards, and make sure residents receive personalised care in line with their needs, wishes and risks.
Main duties
- Support the Home Manager with the day-to-day running of the home.
- Lead and support care staff, seniors and team leaders on shift.
- Work on the floor and directly observe care practice.
- Support personal care where needed.
- Review care plans, risk assessments and daily records.
- Monitor medication practice, eMAR records and follow up any errors or gaps.
- Support audits, action plans and quality assurance.
- Help maintain good standards in safeguarding, MCA, DoLS, infection control, health and safety and CQC compliance.
- Support staff supervisions, training, competency checks and team communication.
- Communicate professionally with residents, relatives, professionals and Head Office.
- Help make sure Log My Care records are accurate, timely and meaningful.
- Take responsibility for the home in the Home Manager’s absence, with support from Head Office.
About you
We are looking for someone who is caring, organised and confident leading staff. You should also be able to support the team on the floor.
You should have:
- Experience in residential care, dementia care or a similar care setting.
- Experience leading or supervising care staff.
- Good understanding of safeguarding, MCA, DoLS and person-centred care.
- Good medication knowledge and confidence with eMAR or digital records.
- Ability to support care planning, audits and risk assessments.
- Good communication skills with staff, residents, relatives and professionals.
- Confidence using digital systems, or willingness to learn.
- NVQ / QCF Level 5 in Health and Social Care / Leadership and Management
- Flexibility to work weekends as part of the rota.
- Driving licence preferred, due to on-call and emergency support requirements.
